I love, love, love Indian food, but unfortunately, I live in a fairly rural area where the nearest Indian restaurant is an hour and a half away. With that kind of distance working against me, I rarely get my fix for chicken masala and naan. However, TJ just made it a lot easier for that to happen.
For dinner tonight, we had boneless skinless chicken breasts cooked in the Masala Simmer Sauce from Trader Joe’s. It was very good. The instructions on the jar say to add 1 cup of water to the sauce, but I did not. I think the sauce would have been far too thin and less flavorful, so I’m glad I skipped that step. It was not spicy at all. This was great for my husband and young son, but I do like a bit more kick to mine. I think next time I’ll add some curry powder to my portion.
Along with the chicken masala, we had frozen naan bread from TJ. It was very good as well, even though I didn’t have my favorite chutney to dip it in. I dipped the naan into the chicken masala–quite tasty. The naan is a bit thicker than what I’m used to at Indian restaurants, but it still had a good flavor. I’m told that TJ has a garlic flavored naan as well, but all they had at my store was the regular.
All in all, I would make this again. It only took about 20 minutes all together to make the rice, chicken masala, and naan. I paired it with some steamed cauliflower to round out the meal. This meal won’t replace my favorite Indian restaurant, but makes a great weeknight meal.
